CUDECA Hospice "Adding Life to  Days"

CUDECA Foundation is a non-profit making organisation that offers professional care to people with cancer and other advanced illnesses, as well as support to their families through the philosophy of palliative care, a field in which it has a great deal of experience and expertise, and from which it offers its special kind of caring. The Hospice not only treats the physical illness, but also the psychological, social and spiritual aspects of it.   In 2022, it cared for more than 1,700 people and offered support to more than 2,200 relatives.   Since 1992, more than 18,000 patients have been cared for by its Multidisciplinary Programmes which include Home Care, Day Care Centre & Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Programme, In-Patient Unit, Psychosocial Programme, Counselling and outpatient consultation. Its care is given completely free of charge.

CUDECA Hospice works according to its philosophy of dignity at the end of life. It was started in 1992 thanks to the hard work and dedication of Joan Hunt, an English born resident of the Costa del Sol. After the death of her husband from cancer, she decided to dedicate her life to helping others in the same situation. To this end, she founded CUDECA. The CUDECA team knows that they cannot add more days to life, but with their care, they can add life to days. To continue caring, CUDECA needs the help of many donors and supporters, as well as the work of volunteers.

Cudeca and Palliative Care Training

Since its inception, Cudeca Hospice has trained professionals in the social and healthcare sector at all levels and in all branches, to contribute to the improvement of the quality of end-of-life care. It has carried out a wide range of teaching and research activities in order to fulfil part of its founding mission: to develop training and research programmes that contribute to the advancement of Palliative Care.

Throughout these 30 years CUDECA has carried out extensive teaching work, in different modalities and aimed at different health professionals and the social and health care sector. We have participated in the training of numerous professionals from all branches of care (MIR, EIR, PIR, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, psychologists, pharmacists, etc.). We have collaborated in the professional practices of different study programmes in Spain.

As it has been doing for the last ten years, Cudeca's healthcare team has participated in the teaching of the University Master's Degree in Palliative Care organised together with the University of Malaga. In addition, every year Cudeca's professionals participate, either as lecturers or speakers, in different universities (University of Malaga, University of Almeria, University of Zaragoza, University of Salamanca, University of Huelva and University of Alicante), and in numerous scientific forums and meetings.
