Cudeca presents its Care and Financial Results of 2012

Today, 20th March, Cudeca held it’s Annual Results Presentation, focusing on care, training, research, volunteering and Finance at the Hospice Centre located in Benalmádena.

Dr. Marisa Martin, CEO and Medical Director, explained in detail the results of the various care programs, including Home Care, Day Care Centre, Inpatient Unit, Psychological and Social rehabilitation programs, Counselling support, and on line information. The result is a very positive balance, with 734 patients and their families attended to both at home and in our Hospice Centre with patient follow-ups every 3 days thanks to the visits, consultations or telephone calls carried out by our professional teams.

Mr. Olalla, CFO, talked of the financial situation of 2012, which has resulted in a deficit of 340,000€ mainly caused by the severe economic crisis that is affecting all of the Cudeca funding sources. Cudeca management has agreed with all staff to reduce salaries, along with other cost-saving measures to reduce the expenditure budget for 2013 by 8%, without affecting the care services provided.   In terms of income, the primary key facture for the near future will depend on, firstly, the renewal of the current contract with the public administration for the Home Care Program which has been in action since 2006, and for Cudeca In-Patient Unit, contracted in 2011, secondly, the sale of properties from inheritances, and thirdly, we aim to continue motivating the local communities to generate new fundraising ideas, to attract the resources needed in this area. While the current situation is complicated, the implementation of these measures can set a target budget in which incoming funds can almost cover expenditures. Mr. Olalla put emphasis on the strengths of the project "that will go on for many more years."

Following these discussions, the Cudeca Gold Pin Award was presented, to the President of the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club, Mr. Bryan Coventry, by the Cudeca Trustee and retired Nursing Director, Susan Hannam. Susan reflected on the support and generosity of Lions Club as an international organization, whose main is serve communities worldwide.

Dr. Martin closed the presentation with a message of encouragement and hope, sincerely thanking everyone for their continued and valued support and reminding guests of statement of the president and Founder of Cudeca, Joan Hunt: "Cudeca belongs to the people of Malaga and all residents of the province of Malaga, it is thanks to them that Cudeca exists, and only thanks to them that we can continue to offer our "Special Kind of Caring."
