Care for the Dying: The 10/40 Model for Best Care for the Dying Person

The International Collaborative’s innovative 10/40 Model for Best Care for the Dying Person is a continuous quality improvement programme that can transform care for the dying within a clinical environment in a measurable and sustainable way. At Summer School, we will explore the main components of the model and give delegates an understanding of how they can implement it in their own clinical setting

Research in the International Collaborative

Providing opportunities to participate in major international research is a core aim of the International Collaborative, and Summer School is a key driver in the development of the project portfolio. This year, delegates can participate in a number of research workshops, including the Serious Illness Care Programme, national benchmarking, the iLIVE project, and the 10/40 Model for Best Care for the Dying Person.

National Benchmarking in Care for the Dying

An opportunity to learn from established national benchmarking and audit centres including the Swedish Registry of Palliative Care and the National Audit of Care at the End of Life (UK). Discussions will include different benchmarking models, quality improvement, staff and relatives’ perceptions, and opportunities for international collaboration and joint projects.

Education and Training

Education and training are vital if we are to deliver the best possible care for dying patients and their families. This year’s programme includes workshops on communication skills, spirituality, ethics at the end of life, alongside others on teaching skills and education and training for the Serious Illness Care Programme – vital topics for any Palliative Care practitioner.
