Race 4 Life – Cómpeta

Last Sunday, 19th July, Debi Bond held her Race 4 Life charity walk around the countryside of Cómpeta in aid of Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice. The event kicked off at 11am with an Open Air Market with stalls selling books, ceramics, clothes, jewellery and homemade produce. At 14.30, everyone was invited to gather outside the cemetery for the official unveiling of the Race4Life statue, created by Moira Schepel. The trickle of walkers soon turned into a torrent and before long hundreds of people began to snake their way along the 2km walk up to the Rural Hotel Alberdini. There was a real sense of fiesta upon arrival, with live music and entertainment for the kids. Participants were invited to a well deserved drink and a plate of paella kindly cooked by a group of Spanish locals.

Thanks to everyone who took part, gave their time and donated generously. Together they raised nearly 2.000€ and still counting, a small part of which will go towards a statue to be commissioned and placed in Cómpeta to remember those who we have lost to cancer.
