Cudeca Hospice annual report

At their Annual Meeting, Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice in Benalmádena, today presented their report for 2014 to the English speaking community, covering medical care, the financial situation, training, research and volunteers.

Many representatives from public institutions, private companies, organisations and friends were present.

Dr. Maria Luisa Martín, CEO and Medical Director, explained the details of the medical care provided, pointing out the added challenge of caring for 25% more patients (200 additional patients) than the previous year; for which Cudeca had to employ a 5th Home Care Team consisting of doctor & nurse. This was possible thanks to the continued unconditional support from families, members, and volunteers, in other words the community, who have supported Cudeca for many years. She also pointed out the continued work of over 700 volunteers who give their time in all areas of Cudeca.

Rafael Olalla, Deputy CEO and Finance Director, pointed out the positive results for the second year, following several years of losses. This is thanks to the continued support of the community, both Spanish & non-Spanish in all the fund raising areas, mainly from members, donations from companies & individuals plus the charity shops. For 2015 the main economical effort will be to continue funding the increase in demand for care as the 5th Home Care Team will need an extra 100.000€.

Following the two reports, the 2015 Gold Pin was awarded by Joan Hunt, O.B.E., Honorary President & Founder of Cudeca, to the Miraflores Golf Club, represented by its President Lesley Malpass and Captains Steve Parker and Tina Roberts, in recognition of their longstanding and highly valued collaboration.

Finally, Joan Hunt presented a special plaque to Liz Parry, Special Events Editor of Sur in English, in recognition of their 30th anniversary & for the continued support given to Cudeca since its beginnings, which has been fundamental in spreading knowledge of the work of Cudeca to the English speaking community.
