Voices for Hospices 2009

The International Palliative Care Day consists of a collective movement to celebrate and support the World Wide Palliative Care movement. The act will take place this year on the 10th October 2009.

The motto of the International Palliative Care Day 2009 is “Discover Your Voice” and it is up to us to raise awareness and make sure that the world has a right to receive quality care at the end of their lives.

Voices for Hospices, celebrated every two years, is the largest simultaneous musical event in the world and in 2007, more than 500 different performances took place in more than 74 countries worldwide over a 24 hr period.

Each year, millions of people in the world who live with a non-curable illness, suffer unnecessary pain and are unable to receive the special kind of care they need. Hospices and specialised Palliative Care centres around the world are designed to provide this care.

The day has three aims:

To increase the availability of Hospice and Palliative care throughout the world to meet those needs.
Increase awareness and understanding of the medical, social, practical and spiritual needs of people who live with a non-curable illness and to the family.
To raise funds for the development of those services around the world.

Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice will be taking part in the Voices for Hospices event on the 10th October 2009 with a music concert - venue etc to be confirmed
