Cudeca celebrates World Palliative Care Day with Voices for Hospices Concert

On 12th October, the Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice celebrated World Pallative Care Day, by holding a charity concert “Voices for Hospices" at the Maria Cristina Hall in Malaga, thanks to the invaluable collaboration of the 10 Lyrical Soloists from Málaga, and the Social Work of Unicaja.
 
The World Palliative Care Day is organised by the committee of the Global Alliance of Palliative Care, a network of centres, national and regional organizations that support the development of Palliative care. This International day, has the aim of raising funds and awareness to the community and ensures that all the people in the world have the right to receive quality care at the final stage of their lives.  More than 400 Hospice Centres, deliver more than 500 simultaneous concerts in more than 60 countries. This year's worldwide theme is 'The achievement of universal coverage to Palliative care: ‘dispelling myths'.
 
The Trustee of Cudeca, Emilio Alba, opened the concert with warm words and introduced the 10 soloists and pianists from Málaga who gave a magical charity performance with renowned compositions by Mozart, Dvorák, Verdi, Bellini, Soutullo and Vert etc.
 
To end the concert, Diego Vázquez from Unicaja Social Work, Emilio Alba and Susan Hannam, Cudeca Trustees; and Marisa Martín presented each artist with a beautiful sunflower, the international symbol of Palliative Care, donated by the Florist Juani in Benalmádena Pueblo.
 
Also attending the concert were, Francisco Pomares, Councilor of Citizen Participation of the Málaga Town Hall; Liz Parry, Editor of the newspaper Sur in English along with friends and volunteers of the Cudeca Hospice.
 
Apart from enjoying a memorable afternoon, we managed to raise a total of 708,23€ was raised which will help to cover the costs of the Health Care Programs that cares for more than 800 people each year with cancer and other advanced and non-curable illnesses apart from providing support to their families. All our services are cost-free.
