Cudeca Annual Results Presentation

CUDECA Foundation held their Annual Results Presentation for 2013 today at the Hospice Centre situated in Benalmádena.

Various clubs, associations, friends and supporters attended the presentation at which the Foundation President , Joan Hunt, announced the succession to Ricardo Urdiales, a key and unconditional supporter of Joan Hunt since the beginning of Cudeca in 1992. Also, following the resignation of Vice President, Dr. Leon Pecasse, Susan Hannam, ex-Director of Nursing was announced as the new Vice President.

Dra. Marisa Martin, Cudeca Hospice´s CEO and Medical Director, explained in detail the results obtained from the different Care Programmes, Home Care , Day Care, In-Patient Unit, Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Programme, consulting and support and information on line. The results have been very positive, with 810 patients cared for and more than 1300 families served, both in their homes and in the Hospice Centre with patient follow-up every 3 days through visits and phone performed by professional teams. All assistance provided to patients and their families is free thanks to the continued support of the community and of the more than 600 volunteers.  Also detailed were the educational activities carried out by Cudeca to public health professionals and students of the University of Málaga, among others.

Rafael Olalla, our Chief Financial Officer, appointed that the good economic performance of 2013 was mainly due to a pay cut agreed with the employees which reduced the deficit by 8 % to 2.8 M. €.  All this without reducing care services. Profits show a positive trend.  Especially good were inheritances and estate sales , thanks to a price cut agreed by the Board earlier in the year. The result is a positive surplus of over € 400,000.  Inheritances are an  unpredictable income, and without them in 2013 Cudeca would have had losses of 277,000€. The challenge is to continue reducing overdependence on inheritances, and increase other sources of more stable income.

Following these presentations, the President, Ricardo Urdiales and Vice President, Susan Hannam, awarded the distinction of the Gold Pin for 2014, to Las Brisas Golf Club in recognition of their continuous support raising an incredible total amount of 138.292,71€ since 2001.

At the end of the presentation, Sandro Morelli, owner of renowned Marbella restaurant Villa Tiberio, announced that he will be holding another spectacular charity gala dinner in November of this year in aid of Cudeca Hospice, with €75 of the €100 ticket going directly to Cudeca instead of the usual €25.  This was warmly received by a round of applause by everyone in the audience.

The meeting was closed by Cudeca Foundation’s new president, Ricardo Urdiales, who emphasized that "the soul of Cudeca, Joan Hunt, will always remain” as Honorary President and Founder.
