Celebration of “Light a Light”

Celebration of “Light a Light”

On Friday 17th December we held our traditional Christmas party "Light a Light" in memory of loved ones outside our Centre in Benalmádena. A very special moment to remember those who are no longer with us, but who remain in some way in who we are and in our hearts forever.

We had performances by the choirs from the Miguel Hernández Public School in Benalmádena; "Costa Soul Singers" and "Cantando entre Amigos"; the great Mago Luigi and a visit from Santa Claus. After the performances, we switched on the Christmas lights at the centre, and this year, on the occasion of the death of our founder, Joan Hunt, we lit a tree full of lights in her memory by our manager and medical director, Dr. Marisa Martín; together with Víctor Navas, Mayor of Benalmádena; Alicia Laddaga, Councillor for Health at Benalmádena Town Hall; and Natacha Rivas, Fourth Vice-President of the Provincial Council of Málaga. We were also able to count on the performance of the tenor Rodrigo Orrego who interpreted Silent Night and You raise me up.

After the lighting of the lights, we continued our party with a raffle with great prizes donated by companies, and we were able to enjoy a Christmas lunch courtesy of a group of volunteers.

All donations received will be part of their new campaign "Joan Hunt, one in a million" dedicated to our founder, to remember and honour her, and to fulfil her last wish: to turn the house where she lived her last years into a place to continue caring. Joan Hunt had the ability and courage to make the impossible possible and real. Now we want to continue his legacy and create the Paediatric Palliative Care Unit, which will ensure specialised comprehensive care and compassionate accompaniment through a team of expert professionals (doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, physiotherapists, music, art and play therapists, teachers,...) and volunteers, both in the patients' own homes and in our Centre, where we will create room nº10 in Joan's house; and a Day Centre. The challenge is to raise €1,000,000 to create and staff the Unit and ensure its operation for 4 years.

If you want to light a light in memory of a loved one, write a dedication and help us to create the paediatric unit, you can do it through www.lightupcudeca.org. All dedications will be published in Cudeca Foundation's annual book, and will serve as a living memory of our loved ones.

We would like to thank all the attendees for their attendance as well as the charity performances of the choirs of the Miguel Hernández Public School of Benalmádena; "Costa Soul Singers"; "Cantando entre Amigos"; the great Mago Luigi and Santa Claus; the collaboration of the Benalmádena Town Hall and collaborating companies; as well as the support of the volunteers.
