1,500 people walking with Cudeca Hospice!

Last Sunday, 15th May, Cudeca Hospice celebrated together with 1,500 participants their famous Cudeca Walkathon 2016 in Benalmadena. The charity walk has, as an objective to promote awareness about their assistential work as well as fundraising to cover the costs of their free assistential programs made up of Doctors, Social workers, psychologists and physiotherapists. Thanks to the affection and solidarity of the participants, friends, collaborators and volunteers, we have been able to achieve gross fundraising of more than 30,000€. On this family and sporting day, we had the presence of numerous members of the Town Hall Corporation of Benalmadena: Victor Navas, Mayor of Benalmadena; Alicia Laddaga, Councilor of Health; Irene Diaz, Social Welfare Councilor; Javier Marín, Citizens Councilor; Beatriz Olmedo, Personnel Councilor; Enrique Garcia, Councilor of Housing; Juan Ramon Hernandez, Councilor of New Technology; as well as members of P.P, Paloma Garcia and Juan Olea; Manuel Gallego, Bank Manager of Caixabank in Torrequebrada; and on behalf of Cudeca Hospice, Dr. Marisa Martin, General Manager and Medical Director; and Rafael Olalla, Deputy General Manager and Financial Director. On the promenade, we enjoyed activities for all the family courtesy of Exploramas, a bouncy castle courtesy of Zimmerman Bouncy Castles, a Charity paella carried out by our team of volunteers together with the restaurant Los Mellizos, a raffle with great prizes, the bar courtesy of Coca Cola and many surprises more. We also had live acts of Mel Williams, Belly dancers “Naima”, the Rociero choir “Peña Union del Cante”, R-Jay, Motown and R&B, DJ Buyo and Consuelo Lallai. Also, Carolina Martin, Physiotherapist of Cudeca carried out the warm up for those attending so that they could start the routes with lots of energy. Regarding the prizes for most funds raised, the undisputable winners were, for yet another year, Bentle and Kim Gottlieb with funds raised of 2,721€, who received the prize of 7 nights stay in Portugal courtesy of Diamond Resorts International. In second place were Soroptimist who raised 1,240.05€ and received as a prize a free medical check valued at 1,000€ courtesy of Vithas Xanit Hospital International; in third place was Chris Knapp with the amount raised of 750€ who was presented with a 2 night stay at Sunset Beach Club in Ireland. The winners of the group with most members went to “Ejercito Rojas“ with 45 participants who received a prize full of free tickets to the main leisure centres of Malaga. The rest of the groups were Club La Costa with 23 participants, Amigos Vallejo with 22, EPI Group with 16; and the Soroptimist team with 12. We appreciate with all our heart the support of all the institutions, companies, people and volunteers that help us each day to achieve our objective: help many people with our “Special kind of caring”.
