Massive attendance to the opening of our new Charity Shop in Los Boliches (Fuengirola)!

On March 5, the inauguration of our new Charity Shop in Los Boliches (Fuengirola) took place, where numerous volunteers, personalities from the City of Fuengirola, CUDECA and a band of ukuleles attended the act.

This new shop, located in Parroco Ildefonso López Lozano street, is the second one in Fuengirola with the objective of raising funds through the sale of second-hand articles to be destined to the care of people with cancer and other advanced illnesses. We assist more than 100 people every year in this municipality and offer support to their families thanks to our Home Care teams made up of doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers and physiotherapists.

The event was attended by the Mayoress of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, and the Councillor for Social Services and the Elderly, Paco Pepe Martín on the side of the City of Fuengirola; on our behalf, the Chief Executive and Medical Director, Marisa Martín received all the volunteers and personalities together with the Deputy Chief Executive and Financial Director of the hospice, Rafael Olalla.

The Mayoress of Fuengirola, Ana Mula wanted to celebrate this new opening by congratulating all the volunteers for their work: "I feel overwhelmed by the great work that all the volunteers of CUDECA have done to have this beautiful shop ready as well as the very nice gesture of the ukuleles band at the door to receive us all. You can see how much love has been put in this solidarity action that will help your hospice to continue raising funds to care for many people who need you”. The Councillor of Fuengirola, Paco Pepe Martín explained with great affliction that: "Unfortunately, I have recently known your work very closely as I have been visiting your In-Patient Unit with regret during the last few weeks; that is why I know of your great work and how important it is for our community".

For her part, the Chief Executive and Medical Director of CUDECA, Marisa Martín commented in conversation with the Mayoress Ana Mula that: "We have cared for many patients in Fuengirola, this was the first site where we began to care for patients. Currently, we see more than one hundred patients a year in the municipality. The community has welcomed us with great affection, they have quickly offered to collaborate in the shop and continue to help us in our work”.

The Deputy Chief Executive and Financial Director of CUDECA, Rafael Olalla, was very satisfied when he said: "It is wonderful how well the new shop has been received by the residents of Fuengirola. We are very happy to have been able to cover both morning and afternoon shifts in the shop with so much solidarity from the neighbors of Fuengirola. Usually, we go little by little approaching the morning shift and, later on, we open in the afternoons. The reception of this shop has been so multitudinous that we have been able to establish a morning and afternoon schedule that will help us, along with all our volunteers, to continue raising funds so that we can continue caring”.

CUDECA Charity Shops

Our Charity Shops are run by teams of volunteers and are the hospice's most important source of funding.

They also carry out important ecological work, preventing tons of clothes from ending up in the garbage each year and finding a second chance to be used. The articles that are on sale in our charity shops are varied and at solidarity prices, from clothes and household items to decoration articles and furniture, toys and clothes for children, books and other articles depending on the season.

Thanks to the volunteers who are going to help in the Los Boliches new shop, there are already 1,000 volunteers who offer part of their time to help in the charity shops, attending charity events, accompanying our patients and relatives, as well as supporting other activities in our CUDECA centre.
