The second Saturday in the month of October is\u00a0 the World Day of Palliative Care and Hospices.\u00a0 Since 2004 it has been held to make\u00a0 people aware of the importance of Palliative Care in end-of-life illnesses and to value the work carried out by the Palliative Care Teams.\u00a0 This is to provide the best care to patients and their families, with the aim of reducing the symptoms suffered by the patient, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually and improve their quality of life.<\/p>\n

The theme that has been chosen this year and that has been the central axis of this day celebrated on October 9 is: “Leaving No One Behind – equal\u00a0 access to Palliative Care.”\u00a0 We have come together to speak out and ensure that all people who need end-of-life care are provided with it,\u00a0 regardless of where they reside, since more than 80,000 people die in Spain each year without receiving this care, according to estimates which includes SECPAL, the Spanish Society for Palliative Care.\u00a0 This medical care is necessary for between 20 and 25% of the people who die in Spain.\u00a0 Worldwide, more than 25.5 million people die each year with serious health problems that requires Palliative Care, and that includes children and young people.\u00a0 Less than 10% of the general need for Palliative Care is met globally.<\/p>\n

Within the team that ensures resources are equal for the entire population and that pay attention to end-of-life care are the assistance volunteers.\u00a0 \u00a0From the Volunteers Department of Cudeca Foundation we want thank all of them, since they carry out their daily work of accompaniment and care to patients and their families with humility and empathy.\u00a0 This is essential to be able to achieve what this year’s motto indicates as fundamental: Leave No One Behind.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
