\u201cThe Burro Hash\u201d \u2013 Mijas Hash House Harriers have kindly visited us to get to know our premises and were also happily received by Joan Hunt, our Founder and Honorary President, in her own house.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mijas H3<\/a><\/strong> has been received at the Cudeca Hospice by the Nursing Supervisor, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Lapeira<\/strong>, and Esther R\u00e1ez<\/strong>, Communication and Fundraising, who gave them a tour through the premises explaining the main 6 care programmes which we run to care for patients at the end of life. After the tour, they were warmly received by Joan Hunt, our Founder and Honorary President, at her own home where she shared a few memories with the group of hikers of her beginnings with CUDECA, as she stated: \u201cI decided to found CUDECA because I was in need of palliative care when my husband passed away and I did not find the proper attention back then, more than 25 years ago\u201d. On her side, Teresa Taboada, one of the members of the hiking club, declared with emotion to Joan Hunt that: \u201cI always love what CUDECA do for the community, and only recently our club experienced this care with the passing of one of our members… I cannot be more grateful”.<\/p>\n

Every year, \u201cThe Burro Hash\u201d\u00a0<\/strong> and “El Boqueron Hash”<\/a><\/strong> pick a charity to support and make runs to collect money to help the charity. They have been running to raising funds for us for many years reaching more than \u20ac5,000 to help us continue caring for those who need it the most and their relatives.<\/p>\n

Their Christmas run is always a charity run; also, their main charity run is the \u201cRed Dress Run\u201d<\/strong> where all the pack men and women have to turn up in red dresses! All good fun and money is raised for the charity. Next May is their 30th anniversary and they are organizing a big event with 350 hashers coming from all over the world with a weekly schedule of activities already planned and the traditional \u201cRed dress run\u201d starting proceedings, weekend of runs, Malaga H3 putting on a run, and a special coach trip and run to Gibraltar.<\/p>\n

Mijas Hash House Harriers<\/strong> was founded almost 30 years ago in May 1989. The aim of hashing was to get some exercise and build up new friendships. Hashing as it is known today started back in Malaysia in 1938 when a group of young business men and civil servants brought out with them their sport of \u201cHare and Hounds\u201d, an old school paper chase. This later evolved into the \u201cHash House Harriers\u201d, which there are now a worldwide association with clubs or \u201cKennels\u201d in every corner of the world.<\/p>\n

Cudeca Hospice wish to thank \u201cThe Burro Hash\u201d – Mijas Hash House Harriers<\/a> <\/strong>for their continuous commitment and never ending support, effort and enthusiasm engaging with their community and friends into their fundraising events. Also, a very special mention to the\u00a0El Boqueron Hash,<\/a>\u00a0the M\u00e1laga runners group who have kindly helped out so much into fundraising alongside The Burro Hash to help us too. They run every other Saturday.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

MIJAS HASH HOUSE HARRIERS <\/strong>was founded in 1989 and it is a group of committed hikers. Now known as Mijas H3, they have run every week from their 1st run on 8th May, now completing their 1600th run on the 14th October, with a turnout of between 20 to 40 runners or hounds. The trail is set in flour which the pack must follow. On the trail will be various marking to make the run interesting, the main one being a \u201cCheck\u201d a cross in flour from here the trail stops and will start in about a 200meter radius of the check (360deg). From here, there could be \u201cFalse\u201d trails ending in a \u201cF\u201d which means go back and find the right trail. If the hares have set a good trail, all the front runners should get to the end of the trail at almost the same time as the back runners. The proceedings always end with \u201cCircle\u201d where copious amounts of beer are consumed and GM and Religious adviser pass out beer \u201cDown downs\u201d to the pack for \u201cmisdemeanours\u201d occurred on the run. The pack, then, adjourn to a local restaurant for a meal and a few more glasses of vino<\/em>. \u201cA drinking club with a running problem\u201d is how most hash clubs are known, Mijas Hash house harriers are no exception, a fun loving crowd whom enjoy exercise, exploring the local country side and most of all a drink!<\/p>\n
