A community fundraising event to raise money for Cudeca Hospice enabling them to continue adding life to days will happen on Saturday, 12th<\/sup> May at 10am at the Competa\u00b4s 25 m International Swimming pool (alongside the Pabellon and Correos).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Climbing the 8848m to the summit of Everest has been achieved by many brave souls so these Competa Cudeca Volunteers could not resist the idea of taking on the alternative challenge of swimming the distance when it was suggested to them by Martin Robinson of Canillas de Albaida.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Possible World Record<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They can potentially set their own World Record <\/strong>for the fastest time in the Guinness Book of Records<\/strong>. Martin, a keen swimmer, undertook an epic 5000m swim 2 years ago whilst undergoing chemotheraphy.\u00a0 He is determined to swim again despite the fact he is still receiving intensive treatment, but this time surrounded by an intrepid team of kind hearted pleasure and competitive swimmers, some of whom are cancer survivors or are simply swimming in memory of a loved one.<\/p>\n

Teams<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This unique challenge requires two teams, an Elite<\/strong> and a Challenge team<\/strong> each to swim 354 lengths of the Competa’s 25m International pool. The Challenge team differs slightly and is open to all swimmers of all abilities and age who may just want to come along and swim as minimum as 10 lengths, for instance.\u00a0 That means they need all swimmers out there and wish to challenge everyone to join Bobby 98, Ing 90 and 13 year-old twins Katy and Sam, who have put themselves forward for this charity challenge.<\/p>\n

How does it work?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Elite team will swim the same distance but in sets of 20 aiming for the fastest time possible.\u00a0 Two team members will swim at the same time so should make for competitive viewing. An epic combined swim length of 17,696m or 8 \u00bd times the height of our local mountain, La Maroma, Sierra de Tejada is the target for a great achievement.<\/p>\n

It would be great if the community would come along and join this group of challenging CUDECA volunteers to help \u201ccheer them on\u201d, possibly sponsor them or just watch the challenging event from 10.00am on Saturday, 12th<\/sup> May.<\/p>\n
