Almost 1000 <\/b>people walked for Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice on Sunday with the objective of raising funds to help save the in-patient unit from the critical economic situation it is currently facing.\u00a0 <\/span>The Hospice, located in Benalm\u00e1dena, offers intensive palliative care to patients suffering from non-curable advanced cancer within the province of M\u00e1laga. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

This year was the sixth walk organised by Cudeca and was very well attended with nearly 1000 participants with a percentage of 53% of Spanish nationality and 47% International.\u00a0 <\/span>It was a huge success and a great example of both communities working together for charity. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Cudeca was proud to have Don Francisco Salido, Benalm\u00e1dena Town Hall councillor, take part in the 10km walk.\u00a0 <\/span>He also spoke some very supportive words of the work Cudeca carries out. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

For the 5km walk, Do\u00f1a M\u00aa Carmen Florido, Benalm\u00e1dena Town Hall?s Celebrations councillor, together with Joan Hunt, President and Founder of Cudeca, received a unexpected surprise of a very special participant: Don Jose Lu\u00eds Marcos, a government delegate from the Junta de Andalucia in M\u00e1laga, who received the gold pin from Joan Hunt, months before, for his support to Cudeca. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Both routes were supervised by guides from the Sierra de Mijas. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

There was all day entertainment thanks to Mel Williams and his music plus a host of other professional singers and dancers; Alicia Lane, Leslie Harrison, Frankie Valentine, Dave Lee, Marimar & her group of belly dancers, Finian Kenny and Tony Bell.\u00a0 <\/span>There were also plenty of delicious burgers and hot dogs available from the BBQ, laid on by Pietro from the Pierinos beach bar. \u00a0<\/span>The company ?Exploram\u00e1s? provided games and activities for children and adults alike. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

The top three fundraisers (via individual sponsorship) were awarded with a prize; 1st prize went to Kim & Bente Gottlieb who raised\u00a0 <\/span>2,390 euros; followed by Enrique G\u00f3mez from Cajasol who raised more than 2,000 euros and 3rd prize went to Robert Troost and Ana M\u00aa Arjona from the Scouts Group with nearly 2,000 euros.\u00a0 <\/span>The leading group prize with the most sponsorship money went to Curves Gym in Arroyo de la Miel. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Trips away, weekend hotel stays and many other prizes were given to the participants. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Cudeca thanked all the participants and everyone who worked on the event for making it possible together with the sponsors RENFE, Benalm\u00e1dena Town Hall, Sunset Beach Hotel, Hospital Xanit, Cajasol, Mc Donald?s, Exploram\u00e1s, Coca-Cola, REM.fm, Knight Insurance Brokers, Solinca, Dumher, Costa del Sol Council, CAMPSA and M\u00e1laga Hoy for their support and generosity.\u00a0 <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n
