Where I am?: Barra corporativa / Care & Support / Our Caring Services / Day-care Center

Cudeca Day Care Centre’s mission is to improve the quality of life of the patients attending the centre through a variety of activities in a relaxed, non-clinical atmosphere. This is created by the vitality and human element provided by the volunteers. The Day Care Centre’s philosophy is to offer rehabilitation treatment for all the facets of the person, physical, psychological, social and spiritual.

Attending the Day Care Centre will give the patient a day away from home and offers an opportunity to share any worries they may have with the staff. It also allows a rest day for the family or carer. In addition we can help the person gain more confidence at home by assessing their personal needs and helping them overcome problems wherever possible.
Patients can access services such as medical and nursing care, spiritual support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hairdressing and beauty treatments as well as varied creative and social activities.

The Day Care Centre allows patients to enjoy a creativity they thought they had lost, to be able to continue to participate in day-to-day life and thus have a degree of normality - albeit in the context of having an advanced disease. It also allows a rest day for the carer.

Day Care Activities may include:

  • Creative therapies, such as decorative work, collage and painting.
  • Recreational activities, such as outings to places of local interest, entertainment and demonstrations
  • Complementary therapies, such as reflexology, aromatherapy, massage and Reiki
  • Other activities, such as relaxation and beauty therapy

The Day Centre enable us to attend to patients offering physiotherapy; psycho-social rehabilitation with psychotherapy, occupational therapy, complementary therapies, hairdresser and chiropodist; nursing care and doctors' surgery, etc., also giving the patients' carers a rest from their daily duties.

Complementary therapies
Complementary therapies are becoming more popular. At Cudeca we use complementary therapies to promote relaxation and help relieve tension and stress, also to promote a sense of well being. Complementary therapies, as the words indicate, are used in parallel with regular medical treatment for patients, or to support relatives or carers. They should not to be regarded as an alternative to medical treatment prescribed by a Doctor or Specialist.

Below, some information about the most frequently used therapies:

Aromatherapy involves the use of essential plant oils. Familiar examples are lavender, lemon, rose, bergamot and rosemary. When we smell something we like, it can help lift our mood and help us to feel more relaxed and revived.
There are many ways of using the oils. The most common way is in aromatherapy massage. The therapist will find one or more oils which appeal to you, then she will make them into an oil or cream before using them as part of a soothing massage. The massage may be on hands or feet, or it may be for the back, neck and shoulders.

Indian Head Massage is special kind of massage is based on treatments given in India and other Eastern Countries. It involves massage of the upper body, especially the neck, shoulder, scalp, back and face. The amount of pressure and the approach is varied to suit each individual.

Reflexology involves gentle contact on the feet or hands by the practitioner. The therapy is based on the belief that different areas on the hands and feet are related to different parts of the body. The therapist will apply light pressure to these areas with the hands to restore a state of balance and relaxation. The touch though light, can be very relaxing.

Reiki therapy has its origins in some of the ancient healing methods of Tibet. They were observed by a Dr. Usui, who took the ideas back to Japan and created modern Reiki, which means universal life energy
A person who is receiving Reiki remains fully clothed. The therapist gently places their hands on the individual, starting at the head and covering most of the body.
Although this therapy seems very simple, people who receive it often find it very relaxing.
